The Australian Student Visa Checklist Every Bangladeshi Applicant Needs

Skystar Editorial Team 25 June 2026 7 min read

The subclass 500 visa rewards organised applicants and punishes careless ones. Work through this checklist before you lodge, and avoid the mistakes we see every intake.

Australia's subclass 500 student visa is decided almost entirely on the quality of your file. There is rarely an interview to recover a weak document โ€” what you lodge is what gets judged. After preparing hundreds of Australian files at Skystar, here is the checklist we hand every applicant, in the order that matters.

1. Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)

Nothing proceeds without it. Accept your offer, pay the required deposit and any overseas student health cover, and your university issues the CoE. Check the course name, duration and fee details letter by letter โ€” an error here contaminates the whole application.

2. The Genuine Student Statement

This is where Bangladeshi applications most often fail. You must answer targeted questions about why you chose this course, why Australia over Bangladesh, your personal circumstances and how the degree serves your future. Write specifically: name the modules, connect the degree to a real career path at home or in your field, and explain any study gaps plainly. Generic paragraphs copied between applicants are recognised instantly and refused routinely.

3. Financial Evidence

You must demonstrate capacity to cover first-year tuition, living costs of around AUD 29,710, and travel of roughly AUD 2,000โ€“2,500. Acceptable evidence includes bank balances, fixed deposits and documented parental income. Three rules save applications: keep funds seasoned rather than deposited last week, document the source of every large credit, and match the sponsor's declared income to their bank behaviour.

4. Health and Character Documents

  • Overseas Student Health Cover for your full visa length (usually arranged with the CoE)
  • Medical examination at a panel clinic in Dhaka after lodgement, when directed
  • Police clearance certificate where requested
  • Passport valid well beyond your intended stay

5. Academic and English Evidence

Include every transcript and certificate from SSC onwards, attested where required, plus your IELTS or accepted equivalent. Most degrees expect IELTS 6.0โ€“6.5; check your CoE conditions rather than assuming.

6. Consistency Check Before Lodgement

Before we lodge any file, we cross-check three documents against each other: the visa form, the Genuine Student statement and the financial papers. Dates, names, income figures and study history must agree everywhere. Contradictions โ€” a father's income stated differently in two places, a gap explained two ways โ€” are the quiet killers of otherwise strong applications.

Timing

Lodge at least three months before your course starts. Processing commonly takes four to ten weeks from Dhaka, longer in the Juneโ€“July rush before the July intake. Book biometrics promptly after lodgement and respond to any Home Affairs request within the stated deadline.

The Shortcut That Is Not a Shortcut

Every intake, someone asks us to reuse a cousin's successful statement. We refuse, because assessors read thousands of files and recycled language is the fastest route to refusal. Your genuine story, told clearly with documents that agree with each other, is the strongest file you can lodge. If you would like ours checked against this list, the review costs nothing.
